2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Westbrook Christian finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Westbrook Christian just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 3A region six with a 3-4 region record. Since 2010, Westbrook Christian has gone a combined 33-28. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 2A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Westbrook Christian has managed to compile a record of 145-123. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 16th in Class 2A and 150th in the AHSAA. Tony Osborne took over the football program soon after Westbrook Christian joined the AHSAA after competing for years in the Christian Leagues. In 1995 his first team finished with an 0-9 record but quickly turned that into winning seasons. His third team in 1997 reached the state championship game before falling to Billingsley behind the talents of Brodie Croyle. His teams went a combined 121-106 in 21 seasons and complied a 8-2 playoff record winning five region championships along the way. Shea Monroe accepted the head coaching position at Westbrook Christian in December. He is a native of Loganville GA graduating from Grayson High School in 2007. He attended Jacksonville State from 2007-2012 and served as a student Assistant for the football team. After graduating with a BS in Education, Monroe coached offensive line for one year at Dublin High School in Dublin, GA. From 2013-2015 he served as the Offensive Coordinator, helping the team make the playoffs 2 out 3 years and winning a Region Championship in 2014, the first since 2008. Coach Monroe also served as the offensive coordinator at Lincoln high school between 2013 and 2015. This will be his first head football coaching job. The Westbrook Christian Warriors will play in Class 2A region six during the 2016 season. The Warriors may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 3A to 2A. They will compete in region six this year. With a little luck and some improvement, the Warriors could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region six this season. Westbrook Christian has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2012 but hope to return to the post season this year. The Warriors open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Glencoe on Friday, August 26 at Yellow Jacket Stadium. Last year the Glencoe Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 9-2 and in second place in Class 3A region six. The Yellow Jackets lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Colbert County by a score of 20-7. Westbrook Christian and Glencoe have met a total of 12 times on the football field. The Warriors have a 3-9-0 record against the Yellow Jackets. They last met in 2015 with Glencoe winning by a score of 50-43. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
